December 23 Agency:<\/strong> Bangladesh has formally requested India to return former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5 following her ousting by a student-led movement.<\/p>\n

According to local media, Towhid Hossain, the foreign affairs advisor to Bangladesh’s interim government, stated that the request was made to the Indian government through a “note verbale.”<\/p>\n

“We have sent a note verbale to India requesting the return of Sheikh Hasina,” Towhid Hossain informed journalists.<\/p>\n

On August 5, a student-led movement ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after weeks of protests and clashes. The unrest resulted in the deaths of more than 600 people.<\/p>\n

Seventy-six-year-old Hasina fled to India, and an interim government was formed under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Earlier, on December 9, Sheikh Hasina accused Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, of masterminding the student protests that led to her ousting, claiming the demonstrations were “carefully orchestrated.”<\/p>\n
