Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the two countries had made progress on a navigation route for ships and were working to finalize remaining details before issuing a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Oman has previously described its discussions with Iran as constructive. Located along the southern side of the Strait of Hormuz, the country has sought to maintain a neutral position amid the conflict, although it has also been affected by attacks originating from Iran.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Oman, a U.S. ally, and Washington have been pursuing separate diplomatic contacts with Iran. Reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world&#8217;s most important energy routes, has emerged as a major issue in those discussions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">An agreement reached between the United States and Iran on June 18 was intended to establish a 60-day framework for a ceasefire and allow the strategic waterway to reopen, at least partially. However, renewed attacks by both sides soon after the agreement prevented it from being fully implemented.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">During a meeting with reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump was asked by a BBC journalist whether the agreement could be extended. He reportedly rejected the possibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Trump had earlier declared the ceasefire over on July 8 while sharply criticizing Iran&#8217;s leadership.
