Kathmandu, 29 August : Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba responded that it is not unusual for two major parties to form a government together. Speaking at a press conference held in Dhangadhi, Kailali, Minister Rana stated that the Nepali Congress and UML have joined forces to solve various issues facing the country.
She said, “A government of major parties has been formed during a time when the country is facing problems. Due to unstable governments in the past, development and the desire for prosperity were not fulfilled, so a stable government has been formed now.” She added, “We have come together for a stable government.” Minister Rana also mentioned that one of the objectives of the current government is to amend the constitution.
However, she claimed that the fundamental principles of the constitution would not change. In response to a question from a journalist about Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s statement that he would like to see a woman become Prime Minister and whether she would be the one, she said, “No matter what is said about me outside, I am aware of my standing within the party. The Prime Minister might have been referring to women from his own party.”
She stated that many leaders in the Congress Party are qualified to be Prime Minister and that she is not in that line. Minister Rana also mentioned that in her short tenure as Foreign Minister, she felt that all countries want to support Nepal.
“All countries have a positive attitude towards Nepal,” she said. “However, in the past, there seem to have been some shortcomings on our part. We will now work towards correcting those shortcomings.”
