06 October Kathmandu – French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has resigned from his position today. According to the BBC, Lecornu stepped down just 27 days after taking office.
He tendered his resignation only 14 hours after announcing his cabinet. Political instability in France continues to intensify.
At 39 years old, Lecornu became France’s fifth prime minister in the past two years. He had assumed office following the collapse of the government led by François Bayrou.
In his new cabinet, Lecornu retained most ministers from the Bayrou administration while making a few new appointments. This move was widely criticized by all political parties.
Following Lecornu’s resignation, several parties are now calling for early elections. Some reports also mention that there are calls for President Emmanuel Macron to resign. However, Macron has made it clear that he will not step down before his term ends in 2027.
