October 29, 2024 kathmandu / An immigration office has been established at the Korla border point in Lomanthang, Upper Mustang, which borders China. According to the Mustang District Administration Office, preparations are underway to officially inaugurate the immigration office within a few days.

Assistant Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Subedi stated that all arrangements for the office’s inauguration have been completed. Once the office becomes operational, both imports and exports of essential goods are expected to become more convenient, particularly facilitating the trade of sheep and goats. The office will also ease border crossings and commercial transactions at the border.

Assistant Chief District Officer Subedi mentioned that, with the establishment of the immigration office, crossing the border with a visa will be possible.

“Currently, only residents of Mustang can cross the border with an entry permit. Once the immigration office is operational, all Nepalis will be able to cross the border with a visa. Chinese tourists will also be allowed to enter Mustang via this border point with a visa,” he said.

He added that the building housing the immigration and security posts is equipped with electricity, and Nepal Telecom’s internet and mobile phone services have been activated.

A 10-room immigration and security post building has been constructed directly across from the Chinese customs. Necessary infrastructure has been developed to provide integrated services from the Korla border. Subedi informed that there are also plans to establish the Nechung Customs Office alongside the immigration office.
