Kathmandu, December 9: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who fled the country, has arrived in Russia. President Assad, along with his family, reached Moscow, the capital of Russia, after failing to confront the rebels.
According to media reports, Russia has granted asylum to President Assad. Al Jazeera reported, citing sources, that Assad and his family members were provided asylum on “humanitarian grounds.”
After the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) seized major cities and entered the capital on Sunday, Assad fled the capital.
However, it was unclear where he had gone with his family. Some rumors suggested that the plane carrying Assad had crashed. Bashar al-Assad had been in power in Syria for 24 years, while the Assad family’s rule lasted for 50 years.
