Kathmandu, 18th March 2025 / The Israeli military is carrying out a “widespread attack” on Gaza. According to the Health Ministry run by Hamas, at least 220 Palestinians have been killed in the attack.

The BBC reports that Gaza’s Deputy Minister and senior Hamas security official Mahmoud Abu Wafa was also killed in the Israeli assault.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that the attack was aimed at destroying “terrorist-targeted structures” belonging to Hamas.

This is the largest aerial assault on Gaza since the ceasefire began on January 19. The talks to extend the Gaza ceasefire agreement have failed.

Eyewitnesses reported that explosions began in Gaza while people were having their early morning meals during the holy month of Ramadan. According to them, more than 20 Israeli warplanes began attacks in Gaza City, Rafah, and Khan Younis.

A statement from the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz mentioned that the attack was ordered on Tuesday morning.

The statement reads, “Hamas repeatedly refused to free hostages and rejected all proposals from U.S. envoy Steve Vitkoff and mediators, which led to this action.”

Hamas has reacted angrily to Israel’s reversal of the ceasefire agreement, calling it a betrayal. It has accused Israel of putting the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza at risk.

However, Hamas has not yet formally declared the resumption of war, instead calling for intervention by mediators and the United Nations.
