Kathmandu, June 12 – An Air India aircraft has crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The plane, which was carrying 242 passengers including former Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani, crashed just two minutes after taking off for London.

The aircraft collided with a residential building near the airport that houses doctors from the nearby Civil Hospital.

According to BBC Hindi, quoting Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik, 204 bodies have been recovered from the crash site. Some injured passengers are undergoing treatment at hospitals, and rescue and relief operations are still ongoing.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off from Ahmedabad airport at 1:38 AM and crashed within two minutes of departure. Onboard were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian citizen.

As the plane crashed in a densely populated residential area, rescue efforts have been challenging. An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
