October 8, Kathmandu – The winners of this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry have been announced. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Sweden declared on Wednesday that the prize will be awarded jointly to three scientists.

In a ceremony held in Stockholm, Sweden, the Nobel Committee announced that this year’s Chemistry Nobel Prize will be awarded to Susumu Kitagawa of Japan, Richard Robson of the United Kingdom, and Omar Yaghi of Jordan.

The three scientists are being honored for their development of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The committee stated, “Metal-organic frameworks have enormous potential, bringing previously unexpected opportunities for customized materials with new functions.”

The committee praised the laureates for creating molecular structures with large internal spaces capable of allowing the flow of gases and other chemicals.
